YEAR 1

Dear Families,

Another Term has flown by and we are at the end of Term 1. The Year 1’s had a very busy few weeks. They have tried their best during assessments. I have been very pleased and proud to see such improvement in all students’ reading levels, great effort! Much of this is due to your support as parents at home, reading with your child each day, greatly helps their reading progress.

We have been lucky to welcome Broady to our class for several classes each day, supporting students in their learning.

In English, the Year 1 class has been doing descriptive writing and many students enjoyed describing ice cream and a fluffy teddy bear. They have been using the Magic 100 Words from their charts in their writing. Each day after reading their readers, the Year 1 students have been practising to write their Magic 100 Words. It’s really important that the students practise these words each day, to improve their reading.

During Maths, the Year 1’s enjoyed doing activities using the scales and measuring items around the room. They used teddies and animals to make the scales show HEAVIER, LIGHTER AND EQUAL weights. The class has also used counters, teddies, shapes and other objects to make patterns. They have been learning about 2D shapes.

We have also welcomed a new friend to our class, Rabiya. We hope you have a great time in our class.

The Year 1 class enjoyed a visit from Ditto from the Bravehearts incursion. They had a good time listening to the show, joining in the actions and completing the activity book afterwards.

The students all looked fantastic dressed in their traditional clothing or orange clothes for Harmony Day. They participated in activities- a colouring competition and dressing up paper people.

Well done to the students who have been completing and handing in their weekly maths homework book and their online work (Reading Eggs and Mathletics). It would be great to see all students completing them weekly.

Thank you again to all of the parents for your ongoing support throughout this Term. Let’s continue to work hard together to promote your child’s learning.
